Rating: **** VERY GOOD

Euphoria with Food, with Music, Art and Ambiance

Zen Dog Cafe- Restaurant is about ambitious food, from tasty appetizers to delectable desserts cooked with detail to attention under the direction of talented Chef Carol O'Leary. The restuarant under owner D.J Kadajian is also very much about a justifiably good live Jazz vibe on Wednesday and Friday night while you are dining. And Zen Dog may well be your favorite eatery in Rhinebeck if you have a penchant for casual value-priced great signature hamburgers like the Louis Armstrong or the Ray Charles,or Benny Goodman which are each 8-0z of prime beef, with all the trimmings that make these hefty paddies succulent, mouthwatering, and super delicious; cooked correctly
to your specifications by a knowledgeable cooking team. Or try an exciting and flavorful Pizza with Italian Sausage, or Pizza Tartuffo made with Sauteed Shitake mushrooms, Ricotta and Goat cheese and truffle oil that is sure to please. Seafood dishes are also very good. And what really stands out is a bountiful seafood dish of Scallops,Shrimp, and Calamari, on a huge bed of Kale which is excellent and done with finesse by Chef O'Leary who is at the helm in the kitchen and for most times always available and in touch with her clientel. The Seafood and Kale dish is pure signature food created by Chef O'Leary: the perfectly seasoned and grilled Scallops, Shrimp, and Calamari were tender and fresh, along with an abundant bed of well seasoned sauteed Kale. The dish presented a nice balance of flavors and textures that were cleverly garnished with a basil-y pesto touch. An inventive and finely tuned dish not to be missed at Zen Dog Cafe. A smart selection of any of two wines, the white Sauvignon Blanc,Domaine Coressergues,2009 or The light bodied Spanish Borgo, Crianza, complemented this entree beautifully. And speedy service by a competent and friendly waitress, Carolina made for a pleasant dining experience. Rating:**** Very Good
